Extraordinary Toys for Design Lovers
These monochrome toys are designed with maximum reduction in both form and color. The neutral color composition of the Monochrome series reflects Modernism and Functionalism which seem to be driven more by analytics and linearity. These monochrome versions are in complete contrast to the Grimm's classic rainbow color combinations with full and complex colors that affect moods and emotions. Discover the exciting and fascinating possibilities when both concepts come together. Designed for play by all--not just for future architects and designers!

Extraordinary Toys for People with Special Needs
The high contrast in color as well as the textured surfaces of the monochrome series of toys help to develop individual needs.
Children with visual handicaps will be motivated to discover the world around them by discerning a more visible world. These multi-sensory toys with simple forms, high contrast coloring and textured surfaces or motion driven sounds will aid in development and stimulation of particular senses.

As with all Grimm's wooden toys, the stain used allows the wood grain and natural discolorations to show through, adding to the individual character of each handmade piece.

Made of European-sourced wood, coloured with non-toxic water-based stain and finished with plant-based oil. All colours and oils used are certified in accordance with the EN 71 and CPSIA/ASTM 963 standards.

Grimm’s Product Care

Grimm’s stands for quality and longevity. When making our toys, we carefully select the wood without defects. At each step, the quality of the wood is checked. But wood lives and responds to air changes. Wood is a natural product and not indestructible, so we can not rule out that something could break. If something breaks, you can repair the piece with wood glue.

Children may be advised and prompted to use caution with their special toys.

If you want to remove dirt from our products, simply wipe with a damp cloth and some soapy water (if necessary). When drying, please do not place on the heater, otherwise cracks may occur in the wood, but allow to dry at room temperature. Please never clean our products with disinfectant, hot water or similar!

OUR MANUFACTURING

We are a family owned and sustainably managed manufacturer, which produces high quality and safe wooden toys made to officially certified standards. In product development, we are guided by the principles of Waldorf education and other educational approaches, such as Montessori. All our products are tested regularly and comply with the European Toy Safety Standard (EN 71) and US standards.

Our products always have unique traces of nature. With a few exceptions, everything is sanded and cut by hand. We use FSC certified  alder, lime, beech and maple wood. Woodworking is outsourced to small independent companies in Europe. The largest of these producers has learned his trade working in our company in Germany. At the company headquarters, new products are developed, and products are oiled, dipped in colour, assembled, quality checked, packaged and shipped all over the world.

UNIQUE MARKINGS

We love wood because it is a natural material so it always has various markings that show up in our products. The unique variations are proof of quality, not defects. For example, dark spots on the rainbow are caused by mineral deposits. This means that if the tree had grown further, a branch would have developed at this point. Black stripes are also something completely natural. This is the pith tube or "heart of the tree". It differs from the surrounding wood by the darker colour and structure. When working on the wood, it can become completely or partially visible. This feature is part of the natural appearance of the wood. Therefore, these are not defects for us, but quality features of a natural product and as such are desired and welcomed by us. We love this uniqueness of wood!

PAINTED BY HAND

All rainbow friends and decorative figures are hand-painted and decorated in the most loving detail. In assembly and packaging, we work in part with workshops for adults with special needs in Germany.

OUR COLOURS

The bright colour glaze and plant oils preserve the living surface of the wood in structure and feel. The result is a rough and yet velvety wooden surface, which contributes to a greater play value, because the individual pieces do not slip off so easily. We use glazing colours and vegetable oil for our products. Our colours are water-based, non-toxic and saliva-fast. Of course, all colours and oils are certified according to the European toy safety standard (EN 71).
